My
Story

Nice to meet you!

I am a lifelong learner who finds immerse joy in being an cross-disciplinary educator in multi-cultural settings. I grew up in Hong Kong, where my curiosity and appreciation for different cultures and languages blossomed alongside my wonder in the natural world - since then, I have sought opportunities to cultivate understanding, inquiry, and exploration with young students. Check out my resume to learn more about my training and experiences with teaching and learning!

Since I was a child, I had a passion for reading literature, and I have a soft spot for poetry. I love reading and writing so much that I completed my undergraduate degree in English Literatures from UCSD. During my studies, I dove past the Eurocentric cannon to explore ethnic literature, indigenous literature, and migrant literature - these are the stories that feel relevant and true to me and my students in this post-modern reality!

Besides reading, I also love being out in nature, taking long hikes, swimming in the ocean, camping, and taking naps in the sun. You'll find me perusing farmers markets for fresh, seasonal produce to take home and create (occasionally) delectable culinary masterpieces!

Place-Based
learning

Culturally relevant teaching is important to me - one of the most powerful ways to learn is through the land we learn on. I am grateful to be teaching on Kumeyaay land for the past 5 years.

I incorporate fieldwork, class trips, and hands-on experiences that integrate indigenous place-based knowledge into our curriculum.

Critical Pedagogy

My teaching practice is grounded in equity and justice, with the goal of empowering our next generation of humans to be conscious, critical, and self-actualized.

When exploring social sciences, I center the ideas of privilege and power, and how each of our experiences are shaped by the invisible systems of oppression so that students have the vocabulary and courage to engender change.

Joy and connection

The best part about working with young people is the fun and hilarious memories we make together! No matter how serious the content or how rigorous the standards, I am sustained by the joy and connection I make with my students.
